Opening of local shopping center in Waldbronn

After months of planning and construction, the long-awaited local shopping center in Waldbronn was officially opened on April 17, 2024, giving the community access to a variety of shopping options. This center, a collaboration between discounter Aldi Süd, project partner Werner Wohnbau from Niedereschach and other partners, marks a significant milestone for the local economy and community life in Waldbronn. The complex not only comprises 115 attractive new apartments, but also houses branches of Aldi, Rewe and dm-Markt, offering residents a wide range of products and services. This development follows around five years of intensive planning and collaboration between the parties involved. The start of construction in fall 2021 marked the kick-off for the implementation of this ambitious project. A key aspect of this joint project was the close coordination between the construction partners and the local municipal administration, the local council and the citizens and associations of Waldbronn. This collaboration made it possible to take into account different interests and needs in order to create a project that is accepted and supported by the community. In addition, the residential and commercial building was designed as a sustainable building, with a green roof and photovoltaics to minimize the ecological footprint. The opening of the local shopping center not only marks a step towards modern infrastructure for Waldbronn, but also strengthens the local economy by creating new jobs and promoting retail. Residents can now do their shopping conveniently and benefit from a lively center that enriches the social and cultural life of the community. Already 90% of the apartments have been sold and the contracts signed. The remaining units have been reserved and contracts are about to be signed. The first apartments, which are currently still undergoing interior work, are expected to be ready for occupation from the middle of the year. It is expected that the first residents will be able to move in from July. “If local amenities and housing can be designed to work so closely together, many people will no longer have to travel from A to B,” says Steffen Jäger from the Baden-Württemberg Association of Municipalities in an interview with SWR Aktuell presenter Stefan Eich. The concept could therefore also be of interest to other towns and municipalities. “The model seems to be particularly attractive for town centers,” says Jäger in the interview.
